His strict adherence to tradition might stem from a past filled with hardship and survival, which perhaps forced him to adopt such uncompromising views. Yet, it’s hard not to feel a tinge of pity for a man so deeply enmeshed in his own beliefs that he loses sight of the possibility for change.
