<h3>Understanding the Role of Technology</h3>Technology is a central part of our lives. It changes how we work, communicate, and even relax. But with this very rapid change, many people feel lost or disconnected and there's lots of research in this space. Let's look at perhaps the most ubiquitous piece of technology; the smartphone. In Ireland, mobile phones have become the preferred device for browsing shopping websites, making online purchases, online searches, banking and playing games. People here check their smartphones over 50 times daily.The Deloitte Digital Consumer Trends report is an annual survey of consumers, which explores their digital usage and attitudes towards technology and is worth exploring here. A survey carried out in August 2023, with 1,000 people between the ages of [18 and 75] in Ireland was conducted and reports that 98% of 18-75-year-olds use their smartphone every day, with more than a third doing so during mealtimes and 74% saying they do so as soon as they wake up compared with 59% a year ago. E-readers, tablets, and smartphones have made it easier to access a wide range of books and people can now carry entire libraries in their pockets/satchels/handbags. A quick look at the ubiquitous Internet tells us that about 505 million people will listen to podcasts in 2024, the most in the medium's short history. Since the term podcast was coined in 2004, the format has grown into a $25 billion industry.&nbsp;YouGov has released data showing the number of regular podcast listeners in countries around the world. The data suggests that 39% of US consumers listen to podcasts for more than an hour a week; that South Africa is the most popular country for podcasts at 68%, Saudi Arabia at 59%, and Indonesia at 57%. There are around 3 million active podcasts. Podcasts outnumber audiobooks by around 6:1. The number of podcasts grew year-over-year between 2009 and 2020. One crucial aspect of this process is crafting a compelling letter to pitch to a publishing agent. This letter is your opportunity to make a very strong first impression and convince the agent that your book is worth their time and attention. Back in 2010, Google attempted to definitively estimate how many books are in the world, enumerating 129,864,880. ISBNDB more recently suggests the number is higher at 158,464,880, accounting for the many literary contributions throughout history and into the modern era. In the US market, just to choose one, (WordsRated, February 2, 2022) report the total number of new titles being published each year in that territory—combining self-published and traditionally published titles—is approximately 3 million. Yes. 3 million.&nbsp;Of course, there is no standardised way to track the actual number of books published annually, therefore making it extremely difficult to accurately compare countries or, indeed, track the industry. One method frequently used is to track how many International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs) are registered by each country.
